Sonder is the moment you look at a stranger and realise they are living a life as vivid and intricate as your own — full of obsessions, small worlds, and people you will never meet. We named this place after that feeling because it is the whole reason we are building it.
the. sonder. is a quiet map of what people are genuinely interested in. It starts with one question: What are you interested in? From there, a calm conversation helps you branch your answer into the specific, sometimes surprising niche that really belongs to you.
Why it exists
Because the deepest interests often feel invisible
Most of us have at least one interest we rarely talk about. Not because it is embarrassing, but because the world around us does not give us a reason to mention it. It might be a very specific kind of pottery glaze, a sub-genre of ambient music, the history of canal locks, or the way certain moss grows on old walls.
When those interests stay hidden, two things happen. We feel slightly less known than we are. And we miss the people who would love to talk about exactly the same thing.
Sonder exists to make those intersections visible — gently, privately, and only when both people want them to be.

A community on Sonder might be three people in one city who care about the same obscure synthesis technique, or thirty people across a region who all want to learn botanical illustration.
